Do I have hearing loss?

Do-I-have-hearing-loss2.jpgBecause hearing loss often happens gradually,  you might not notice the signs straight away.

On average it takes someone seven years before they acknowledge their hearing loss, so more often than not we see people who have become so accustomed to living with reduced hearing ability that they believe their hearing is fine.  It's their "new normal".  Yet, when they listen to how they should be hearing using the latest technology at our clinic, they discover how much they're missing out on, and realise that they do have a hearing loss.  So, how well do you hear?

Here are some simple ways to assess whether you might have a hearing loss:

1)  Do you often turn up the volume on the television or radio in order to hear it comfortably?

2)  Do you find it difficult to hear people clearly when in a busy environment such as a restaurant?

3)  Do you struggle to hear conversations when in a vehicle?

4)  Do you find younger children or women with higher pitched voices hard to hear clearly?

5)  Hearing loss commonly affects high pitched sounds such a 's', 'f', 'sh' and 'th'.  These sounds play a key role in your ability to understand speech clearly.  You will notice that you can hear the voice, but not be able to understand clearly what's being said, especially if you can't see the face of the person speaking.

Do any of these sound familiar?  If so, come in and see us for a no-obligation hearing test.  We know that this is a big step but we promise it'll be interesting and interactive - you'll compare your hearing against what is normal, you'll hear what it would be like if your hearing was 'normal' by using one of our simulator machines, and if you bring a family member along we'll play them  everyday sounds as you currently hear them, so they get an idea of what it is like for you to not hear well.  It's usually a real eye-opener for everyone!

The good news is that Clarity uses the latest technology to assess hearing.  Learn more about our state-of-the-art technology and the process we follow, or find out more about hearing loss or the signs and symptoms of hearing loss.
